Edge Light could soon arrive on the iPhone, according to code discovered within the iOS 27 Release Candidate. The feature first appeared in macOS 26.2, where it was made available to Macs equipped with the M1 chip or newer, and evidence now suggests it will extend to Apple’s mobile devices.
Code found in the iOS 27 Release Candidate points to Edge Light coming to the iPhone Duo at a minimum. The feature appears to remain in development, however, as the colour temperature setting is not yet fully implemented.
How Edge Light Works
On the Mac, Edge Light illuminates the borders of the screen to evenly light the user’s face in low-light conditions. It functions as a virtual ring light, with settings to adjust the width of the white line around the screen and a colour temperature slider to make the light appear more or less warm.
Based on a video showing the feature running on a simulated iPhone, Edge Light appears to work in a similar manner on the handset, offering the same brightness and colour temperature controls found on the Mac.
Availability on iPhone
The iOS 27 Release Candidate gates the feature behind a device subtype that points specifically to the iPhone Duo. It is unclear whether Edge Light will be available on the device when it launches on 23 October 2026, or whether the feature will later expand to other iPhone models.
The colour temperature setting remains incompletely implemented in the current code, indicating further work is required before the feature reaches users.
