Sony has confirmed that a new Xperia smartphone is arriving next week, with the widely anticipated Xperia 10 VIII expected to headline the online reveal. The announcement follows the company’s recent celebration of the flagship Xperia 1 VIII, and it now appears ready to expand its line-up within days.
The company has scheduled a YouTube stream for 25 August 2026 at 11:00 JST. Viewers in the United States can watch on 24 August 2026 at 22:00 ET. Although Sony has described the event only as an announcement of a new Xperia product, the mid-range Xperia 10 VIII is the most likely candidate, having already surfaced on an FCC database last month.
What to expect from the Sony Xperia 10 VIII
Details drawn from regulatory filings suggest the handset will retain a 3.5 mm headphone jack, along with four LTE bands, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 6 support. Notably absent from the filing was any mention of 5G connectivity, as well as Wi-Fi 7 support, both of which stand out given current expectations for a modern device.
A separate listing pointed to a device with the codename Sony XQ-GH54 appearing on Geekbench, equipped with a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset and 8GB of RAM. This model number aligns with earlier references to the Xperia 10 VIII, making it very likely this represents the hardware Sony intends to unveil.
The specification is largely unchanged from last year’s Xperia 10 VII, which used the same processor and memory pairing. Sony followed a similar pattern with the Xperia 10 IV and Xperia 10 V, leaving open the possibility of a camera refresh or another upgrade to differentiate the new model. The decision to reuse components may be linked to broader pressures on memory supply and an effort to keep pricing under control.
Availability across global markets
A launch in the United States remains unlikely. Even though the device cleared the FCC, Sony has not sold its handsets in the US for several years, and there is little indication this will change with the new model.
The timing of the event offers further clues about its intended audience. Scheduled for late morning in Japan and late evening in the US, it falls in the middle of the night across Europe. The Xperia 10 VIII is confirmed to be launching in Japan, though its prospects in Europe and other regions appear far less certain.
