Google Discover is introducing a new way to shape your feed by describing what you want to see. The feature is rolling out to the Google app in the “coming days” and uses AI to automatically adjust your feed while remembering your preferences for future visits.
The option sits within the three-dot menu on your Discover feed. Tapping it opens a chatbot-style interface where you can describe your preferences. The chatbot then confirms your choices and outlines the types of content it will prioritise, with the option to add further detail if it does not get things quite right. Once you are happy, selecting “Refresh your feed” applies the changes.
Greater control over recommended content
The update is designed to make it simpler to manage what appears in your Discover feed, which surfaces recommended articles based on your activity across Google’s search engine and apps. Several social media platforms have added similar AI-driven feed customisation, including YouTube, Instagram, Bluesky and X.
The move places AI-tuned feeds at the centre of how Google recommends content, giving users a more direct say in the material they are shown rather than relying solely on inferred activity.
Audio briefings and Preferred Sources updates
Google announced further changes alongside the Discover feature. Users can now personalise daily audio briefings in the Google News app on Android, choosing the topics they want to hear about.
There is also an update to Preferred Sources, a feature that lets readers see more of their favourite outlets across Search’s “top stories” section, AI Overviews and AI Mode. With the change, publishers can place an interactive “Preferred Sources” button on their own sites, allowing readers to add an outlet to their list quickly without navigating away from the webpage.
