iPhone Duo Leak Reveals Hidden StandBy Mode Features

iPhone Duo Leak Reveals Hidden StandBy Mode Features
The foldable iPhone Duo may launch with five hidden StandBy faces and watch-style customisation, according to leaked code. On sale 23 October.

The foldable iPhone Duo could arrive with several software features that Apple has yet to publicly detail, according to code strings uncovered ahead of its release. The device was announced alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, but it will not go on sale until 23 October.

While many of the handset’s new and unique features have already been shown, fresh findings suggest that at least some surprises remain in store for launch day.

New StandBy faces uncovered

The iPhone Duo will be the first iPhone to feature two displays, and Apple is pairing that hardware with distinctive software. Among the highlights is a new StandBy mode, which the company demonstrated when it unveiled the foldable.

Code strings point to five previously unrevealed StandBy faces: Home Camera, Home Modular, Flow, Fade and Snoopy. As the names suggest, the first two relate to smart home functionality. Home Camera would let users view either a single camera feed or a grid of up to nine cameras, while Home Modular could offer a modular layout with support for various home accessories and smart home controls.

The remaining three are most likely to feature different art, images and animations. Flow appears to include responsive art, while little is known about Fade. Snoopy could work similarly to a screensaver on tvOS 27, showing the cartoon character.

Watch-style customisation options

StandBy will also include several views already seen, including Analog, Digital, Classic Calendar, Weather, Photos, Memories and Shared Albums. Customisation for the first three modes appears very similar to how watch face editing works on watchOS.

Users would be able to edit elements such as colours, fonts, styles and widget slots. Adjusting these settings works by swiping between faces and scrolling through the available options.

Reaction to the changes has been positive among users online, with some hoping the new customisations will also reach the non-foldable iPhone models. One suggestion even called for Apple to launch a dedicated alarm clock device, given the appeal of using the display as a bedside clock.

The iPhone Duo is priced at around £1,500. Apple generated considerable interest with its first foldable, but it faces strong competition. Rivals include the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which shares the same passport shape at a lower price, and the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, which offers more advanced cameras.

Other alternatives include the Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold, Motorola Razr Fold, Honor Magic V6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 8. The foldable iPhone Duo goes on sale on 23 October.
