Galaxy S27 Price Rises Could Hand iPhone 18 an Edge

Galaxy S27 Price Rises Could Hand iPhone 18 an Edge
Leaked Galaxy S27 price rises could push Samsung's flagships above the iPhone 18, handing Apple a competitive edge on cost in 2027.

The Galaxy S27 series is reportedly set for notable price increases, a development that could strengthen Apple’s position in the premium smartphone market. While the lineup is expected to launch in early 2027, with the standard iPhone 18 anticipated around March, fresh leaks suggest the next generation of Samsung flagships may arrive at steeper price points than their predecessors.

The reported hikes follow earlier controversy surrounding the Galaxy S27 Ultra design leaks. Price rises for a new generation are not unexpected, but the scale of the reported increases, and their potential impact across the full range, has drawn attention.

How much more could the Galaxy S27 cost?

According to a Korean source, the price increase for the Galaxy S27 in South Korea could reach 130,000 won, roughly £70 after a direct conversion. This figure is expected to apply to the lowest-storage versions, with higher-storage models potentially facing larger rises.

The increases are said to affect the entire lineup, including the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra. Samsung recently raised prices on the Galaxy S26 series in the United States, where the Galaxy S26 Ultra now starts at around £1,100 for the 256GB version. The current reports do not confirm price changes outside South Korea, but should the increases reach the US market, the Galaxy S27 Ultra could start at approximately £1,180.

Why this benefits the iPhone 18

Apple has already increased the price of the iPhone 18 Pro Max compared with the iPhone 17 Pro Max, though that adjustment only brought it level with the Galaxy S26 Ultra before Samsung’s recent change. The iPhone 18 Pro Max now starts at around £1,020, roughly £80 less than the top-tier Galaxy S.

The pattern extends to the standard models. The iPhone 17 also received a price rise, which initially matched the Galaxy S26’s starting figure. After Samsung’s subsequent adjustment, the Galaxy S26 now starts at approximately £790, while the iPhone 17 is positioned as the more competitive option.

Samsung remains aggressive with discounting in the US, where its top-tier models are frequently reduced. The Galaxy S26 has recently been offered with savings of around £180. However, a further price rise on the Galaxy S27 Ultra could limit Samsung’s ability to discount sufficiently, leaving its flagship priced notably above its main rival.

Apple could position the iPhone 18 as one of the most competitively priced new handsets of 2027 if it retains the iPhone 17’s current starting price of around £710. By contrast, a further hike could place the standard Galaxy S27 at approximately £830.
