The first Frozen 3 trailer has arrived, offering audiences a look at Anna and Elsa stepping through a portal into a world of icy crystal butterflies. The teaser was unveiled during Disney’s biennial fan convention D23 in Anaheim on Friday night, presented by Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell.
According to Menzel, the third installment in the Frozen franchise is set “far from Arendelle in a frozen land more wild and dangerous.” The trailer opens with a shot of the northern lights, where a snowflake falls and transforms into a butterfly that flies towards Arendelle Castle. It collides with Elsa during Anna and Kristoff’s wedding, and a portal opens. As the sisters step through, they discover an icy world filled with butterflies, along with a new, as yet faceless villain with dark hair who has been searching for Elsa.
New Characters and a Musical Hint
Josh Gad, the voice of Olaf, also appeared on stage at D23 to perform a love song about a new snow woman named Samantha. Menzel and Bell hinted that every character will have a love interest in the upcoming film, suggesting an expanded romantic storyline across the ensemble.
Disney used the event to showcase new costumes for Anna and Elsa. The ice queen is now styled in a purple-blue ombre long-sleeved dress with a blue hooded cape, while the queen of Arendelle appears in a pleated pink dress and cape with a turquoise undershirt. In the trailer itself, Queen Anna wears a white wedding dress embroidered with flowers, while Elsa is dressed in a mauve gown.
Release Date and Where to Watch
The Frozen 3 trailer was revealed just over a year ahead of the film’s release date of 24 November 2027. Ahead of the return to Arendelle, both existing Frozen films and multiple Frozen shorts are available to stream on Disney Plus.
Frozen 3 was announced at Disney’s D23 event, continuing one of the studio’s most commercially successful animated franchises.
