Apple’s Final Cut Camera app has received an update that brings support for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max cameras, allowing users to make the most of the handsets’ variable aperture and Cinematic mode effects.
The refreshed app introduces a redesign that is available across any iPhone. It offers easier access to commonly used settings such as white balance and ISO, together with customisable overlays that give greater flexibility during recording.
What the iPhone 18 Pro gains
Owners of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max stand to benefit most from the release, as it lets them fine-tune the variable aperture. This means the aperture can be opened widely to admit more light or closed to focus on closer subjects. The update also unlocks Cinematic mode effects for standard video, enabling adjustments to focus points and depth of field when editing footage within Apple’s Final Cut Pro app.
The update lands on the App Store roughly ten days after the launch of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Both phones debuted Pro controls within the standard camera app, which so far has included preset variable aperture settings that can be toggled between, as well as shutter speed settings that allow photographers to experiment with lighting.
Professional video features
The Final Cut Camera app is geared towards video recording and includes additional capabilities such as creating a Live Multicam session that connects up to four devices running the recording software. While most people will be perfectly served by the video settings in the standard camera app, the Final Cut Camera app places particular emphasis on professional-level video capture.
Apple recently used the iPhone 18 Pro Max to broadcast a Los Angeles Dodgers versus San Francisco Giants baseball game, having previously deployed the iPhone 17 Pro Max in similar broadcast settings.
