The third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is fast approaching, and at Disney’s D23 convention in Anaheim, California, the cast offered a glimpse of what lies ahead while answering fan questions during a panel discussion.
A fresh trailer for the November instalment debuted during Disney’s D23 Entertainment Showcase. Walker Scobell, who plays the title character, appeared on stage alongside Ming-Na Wen (Hera) and Andra Day (Athena) to present the footage, which showed Percy fighting underwater and in arenas as a titan emerges.
Adapting The Titan’s Curse for the First Time
After the critically panned films released in the 2010s reached only the second book in Rick Riordan’s series, the Disney Plus original marks the first adaptation of The Titan’s Curse. The story follows Percy and his Camp Half-Blood companions on a mission to rescue the goddess Artemis, played by Dafne Keen.
“Season 3 is the season where some people get what they deserve,” Scobell said during the panel. He added that the third season features a great deal of improvisation, with the cast now comfortable enough to play off one another like bantering siblings.
Tamara Smart, who plays Thalia, said scenes exploring the past and Olympus were her favourites to film. “Season 3 is the season where women run it,” she said, describing the pleasure of playing a powerful, confident woman who is angry, sad and frequently yelling at Percy.
What the Cast Revealed About the New Season
Keen was limited in what she could reveal, but noted that newcomers to the show trained together in a huntress camp, learning as a pack and mastering archery. “Love and loss inform all decisions,” she said of the season.
Saara Chaudry, who plays Zoë Nightshade, called the role “the absolute privilege of my life,” adding that “Season 3 is the season where the stars align.”
Showrunner, writer and executive producer Dan Shotz offered more detailed hints. “We have this great source material, and we get to dive a lot deeper,” he said. “You’re going to see all these great things you love from this book, but so much more. We cannot have a season of this show without Annabeth.” Shotz confirmed viewers will meet all the gods this season and see the junkyard of the gods.
Executive producer Jonathan Steinberg warned that not everyone survives. “I’m excited for everyone to go on that ride shown in the trailer,” he said. “The trailer doesn’t lie.”
The eight-episode season streams on Disney Plus from 20 November.
