The Honor Play20A stands out in the company’s line-up thanks to a rare feature for a non-folding handset: a secondary display positioned on the camera island at the rear. No other conventional Honor phone currently offers this arrangement.
The rear screen lets you frame and capture photos using the main camera, which relies on a 13MP sensor. Despite its appearance, this is the only genuine camera at the back of the device. The 13MP shooter should deliver better image quality than the 5MP front-facing camera.
A rear display with everyday functions
Beyond photography, the secondary screen shows the time, which is useful given that the Play20A does not include an Always On mode for the front panel. It also presents “now playing” details from the music player and displays caller information when the phone rings.
Turning to the front, the most notable element is the main LCD, a sizeable 6.9in panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. That makes it larger than the majority of handsets on the market. The asymmetric bezels and notched camera are typical of entry-level devices, while the fingerprint reader is integrated into the side of the phone.
Specifications and battery
The Play20A is a 4G device built around a Helio G81 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM and a choice of 64GB or 128GB of storage. The card tray accommodates three cards at once, comprising two SIMs and a microSD card supporting up to 1TB of additional storage.
Powering the handset is a substantial 6,000mAh battery, a generous figure for an entry-level model, although the 15W charging speed is comparatively slow. The phone is offered in three colour options.
Pricing for the Honor Play20A has yet to be confirmed. It has appeared on Honor’s global page and on Honor Qatar, though no cost has been listed for the device.
