Meta Open Sources Muse AI Code for DIY Gadgets

Meta Open Sources Muse AI Code for DIY Gadgets - Meta Muse AI
Meta open sources Muse AI code so makers can build their own gadgets, and is giving away 5,000 Muse Home Link devices shipping this month.

Meta has open sourced the code behind its new Muse AI agent, allowing anyone to build their own gadgets featuring the company’s artificial intelligence. The move opens the door for makers and hobbyists to integrate the AI agent into a wide range of custom hardware projects.

The company has outlined several possible uses for the technology. These include loading Muse onto a colour E Ink display to show reminders, adding it to an HDMI stick so the agent can appear on a large screen, or installing it on a small touchscreen device to create something resembling a DIY Muse Charm.

How Muse Gadgets Work

According to Meta, Muse gadgets are open source devices that users build themselves. The company explains that makers can program an off-the-shelf ESP32 board or set up a Raspberry Pi using its SDKs, then connect Muse to displays, buttons, sensors, actuators and other components. Meta added a note of caution, telling builders to “proceed at your own risk”.

The flexibility of the platform means that the AI agent can be paired with whatever hardware a maker has available, giving considerable scope for experimentation across different form factors and use cases.

Muse Home Link Gadget

Alongside the open source code, Meta is giving away a ready-made device it created called the Muse Home Link. With this gadget, users can draw on community-built skills to have the AI agent carry out tasks such as turning on a light, controlling a television, and sending a document to a printer, depending on the setup.

Nat Friedman of Meta Superintelligence Labs said the company manufactured 5,000 units of the gadget. Those interested can claim a waitlist spot for the Muse Home Link now, ahead of shipping expected to take place this month.
