The iPhone Ultra, expected to be Apple’s first foldable iPhone, could revive a red finish according to a new leak, though the accompanying images raise more questions than they answer.
A longtime Apple leaker suggested that Apple will bring back a much-missed colour for its yet-unannounced device. The post showcased renders of the iPhone Ultra in white, black, and red.
The claim is notable because Apple has not released a red iPhone since 2022, when it launched the iPhone 14 and iPhone SE 3 as part of a (PRODUCT)RED partnership.
Why the images invite scepticism
The leaked image is not an official render. It may be a mockup of a rumour, or a complete fabrication. Several details appear inconsistent with what is expected from Apple.
The battery icon shown, for instance, does not match what is anticipated in iOS 27, nor does it resemble the battery icon in iOS 26, which features significantly thinner lines and a swipe-down indicator for Control Centre.
It seems likely the images are AI-generated, which is reason to treat the rumour cautiously. No other reports have corroborated the idea of a red model. In fact, further rumours have suggested the device could arrive in a single colour: white.
When Apple is expected to reveal the device
Regardless of whether Apple releases one colour or three, the device is expected to sell out quickly.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Ultra on 9 September at 10:00 PDT and 13:00 EDT as part of its “Surprise and shine” event.
