The iPhone 20 is already generating speculation more than a year ahead of its expected launch, with a fresh leak pointing to a design that borrows heavily from one of Apple’s current models. Although the iPhone 18 Pro and the foldable iPhone Ultra have yet to be unveiled, attention is already shifting to the anniversary handset and how it might look.
iPhone 20 design may take cues from the iPhone Air
Several reports have already indicated that the anniversary iPhone will feature a distinctive all-glass design alongside a display overhaul. According to leaker Fixed Focus Digital, the device may use the same glass assembly process employed for the iPhone Air, though with certain modifications.
The adjusted equipment is said to produce more rounded glass components for the iPhone 20 than those made for the iPhone Air. This is consistent with earlier claims of a quad-curved display on the new handset. By adapting an existing process, Apple is reported to have secured significant production cost savings.
Technical improvements expected
Beyond cost reductions, Apple may have achieved notable technical gains with the new process. The anniversary iPhone is said to benefit from much better heat dissipation and a thinner body. This supports earlier reports that Apple will carry design elements from the upcoming iPhone Ultra and the iPhone Air over to the anniversary model.
While the iPhone 20 is expected to deliver performance comparable to the Pro range, it is anticipated to be lighter and thinner than those devices. However, it is unlikely to match the slimness of the Air, as it would prioritise performance to a greater degree. A previous review of the iPhone Air noted that thermal throttling could become an issue under heavy loads, while everyday use remained more than fast enough.
What else is known about the iPhone 20
Given the anniversary model is likely more than a year away, very little is confirmed. Earlier rumours suggested Apple may increase the display size so the smaller model reaches 6.4 inches, with the supposed Max version moving to a 7-inch screen.
The larger displays are said to come with a bezel-less design and more power-efficient panels. The phones are also expected to drop the Dynamic Island, placing the front camera and Face ID system beneath the display. A great deal could change before the anticipated launch, with some recent reports even suggesting the entire project had been cancelled.
