Google Gemini Adds AI Study Tools for Students

Google Gemini Adds AI Study Tools for Students - Google AI study tools
Google introduces AI study tools across Gemini and Search, offering flash cards, quizzes, 3D simulations and free Google AI Pro for US college students.

Google’s AI study tools have arrived just in time for the back-to-school season, with the company introducing a dedicated student hub across its Gemini AI assistant and Google Search. Announced on Wednesday, the suite is aimed at college students and offers a range of features designed to support research and assignments.

The study hub sits within Gemini and brings together a study notebook, customised flash cards and practice quizzes. Students can ask Gemini to explore a research topic and then move on to other tasks while the assistant compiles the information in the background. Once the report is ready, Gemini sends a notification and remains available to discuss the details, taking part in a question-and-answer session to help students grasp the findings.

Interactive Learning Across Gemini and Search

Students can also chat conversationally with Google Live about multi-step research papers to build a clearer understanding of a given subject. Additional educational features include AI-generated 3D simulations, tables and grids, produced after a student enters a specific prompt. Someone writing a paper on DNA could type “Show me how DNA works in 3D” and receive interactive visuals to explore a DNA model.

Simulations can also be generated through Google Search. Science students searching for “pH scale” will see visual results within an interactive AI overview. Those using AI Mode in Search can ask follow-up questions to dig further into a topic.

Customised quizzes are now available through Search as well, covering subjects from science and mathematics to foreign languages. A student preparing for an exam could ask Search to create a quiz featuring the most commonly tested vocabulary words, and a tailored quiz would be generated in response.

Free Access and Student Deals

Students can upload files such as PDFs, images and documents to Search, which can then produce study documents to keep material organised and easy to follow. Scribbled notes, class ideas and lecture feedback can be consolidated into one-page reports outlining the key points.

Google is offering college students in the US a free year of Google AI Pro, which normally costs around £16 per month. The plan includes four times higher usage limits in Gemini, access to Gemini Spark, Gemini features in apps such as Google Docs and Gmail, Google Health Premium and 5TB of storage. Google is also bundling Google AI Pro with YouTube Premium at up to 70% off.

The launch of these study tools comes one day after OpenAI introduced ChatGPT for Teens, a version focused on the education of younger students. Google’s expansion into AI-powered learning arrives as more companies move into the education market.
