The Galaxy S26 FE battery is facing fresh scrutiny after a new leak pointed to a notable compromise ahead of the phone’s expected launch. Samsung has yet to make anything official, but numerous details about the upcoming handset have already surfaced, and the latest disclosure focuses on the device’s power cell.
According to a leaked European Energy Label, the Galaxy S26 FE may adopt a different battery technology, accompanied by a significant decline in its charging cycle rating.
Galaxy S26 FE battery downgrade explained
Last year’s Galaxy S25 FE was rated at 2,000 cycles before its battery capacity fell below 80%. The new model may be rated at only 1,200 cycles, a 40% reduction. Despite this, the battery is now rated to last exactly 50 hours, compared with 42 hours and 37 minutes for last year’s model, marking a 20% improvement in longevity per charge.
This is not the first mention of a potential longevity drop for the S26 FE. Samsung applied a similar approach to its latest foldables. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Z Flip 8 are all rated at 1,200 cycles, whereas the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 reached 2,000 cycles.
On the foldables, that reduction was the trade-off for higher-capacity silicon-carbon batteries housed in thinner chassis. Unlike those devices, the S26 FE is rumoured to keep the same 4,900 mAh battery capacity within the same 7.4 mm thick body, which suggests it may not receive the silicon-carbon treatment.
Galaxy S26 FE launch and pricing
Rumours point to a launch sometime in September. A recent leak indicated there will be no significant hardware upgrades beyond the Exynos 2500 chipset and several new colours. The phone is expected to retain the same 6.7-inch display, the same triple rear camera, and the same 45W charging capabilities. Samsung is reported to be concentrating on software updates and Galaxy AI-powered camera features.
The device is also expected to arrive at higher prices than last year’s model, with the entry-level version featuring 128GB of internal storage and 8GB of RAM set at around £550. That positioning would place it close to Samsung’s own Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26 Plus, both of which frequently see substantial discounts.
The Galaxy S26 FE will also compete against rivals such as the Pixel 10a and the iPhone 17e. Both are more modest offerings, yet they are considerably cheaper. The Pixel 11 is also likely to feature in the same market segment.
