The Galaxy S24 series has started receiving a new software update, though it is not the release many owners had been waiting for. While Galaxy S26 owners around the world have begun installing One UI 9, those with older devices will need to wait longer for the equivalent upgrade.
Samsung has begun rolling out the update to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24 Plus, Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S24 FE. The release does not include a stable version of One UI 9 for any of these models.
What the Galaxy S24 update includes
The update measures roughly 450MB on the international versions of the three main models in the S24 family. For the Galaxy S24 FE, the download is slightly smaller at 438MB.
Rather than delivering a major new interface, the release brings the September 2026 security patch to the S24 range. The update addresses various vulnerabilities and is already rolling out globally, making it worthwhile to install.
When will One UI 9 arrive on the Galaxy S24?
Samsung has not yet released a stable build of One UI 9 for the Galaxy S24. Earlier this month, the company began rolling out the first One UI 9 beta to Galaxy S24 devices in the US, India and South Korea. Although Samsung has not confirmed a specific date for the stable release of its Android 17-based software, it is widely expected to arrive in October.
Owners of older Galaxy handsets will therefore need to wait a little longer, while the Galaxy S26 has already started receiving One UI 9. The staggered approach has drawn comparisons with how Apple distributes iOS 27 and earlier versions across its devices simultaneously.
For now, the Galaxy S24 series receives only the September 2026 security patch, with the stable One UI 9 update expected in October.
