The Verizon Simplicity postpaid plan marks the carrier’s first concrete move towards a more customer-focused model, challenging the industry norm with a straightforward premise. Announced in June, the plan is designed to reduce complexity and friction, with Verizon describing it as the industry’s most cost-effective option.
Unlike the carrier’s earlier plans, Simplicity does not restrict network tiers according to how much you spend. Every customer gains full access to the fastest 5G speeds, regardless of the amount they pay each month.
Price and Features
The concept is simple: pay for core connectivity, then add handset upgrades and digital bundles only if you want them. A single line costs roughly £35 per month, though an introductory promotion lowers this to around £24 for customers who transfer their number from another carrier and activate AutoPay. By comparison, Verizon’s most affordable myPlan tier, Unlimited Welcome, costs approximately £51 per month for one line.
The plan includes unlimited data, calls and texts, plus access to 5G Ultra Wideband, the carrier’s fastest network. Subscribers also receive 10GB of premium mobile hotspot data, satellite-powered texting, and roaming across Canada and Mexico.
In a convergence move, the company is reducing its starting 5G home internet price to about £27 per month for Simplicity customers, down from the standalone rate of roughly £39 per month.
The plan introduces a loyalty scheme called Verizon Dollars, described by the company as an industry first. This cash-back programme returns 3% in Verizon Dollars each month when customers pay their bill. The rewards can be redeemed for devices and accessories at Verizon stores, and their value can stretch up to five times further at Sephora, Hilton, Marriott, Starbucks, and other brands.
Simplicity subscribers are also eligible for Verizon Shine, a further loyalty scheme through which the company distributes merchandise, vouchers, gift cards, and experiences. As with similar rewards programmes, the freebies tend to be claimed quickly. Additional features include Verizon Family, which allows guardians to manage a child’s devices, and a call filter for blocking spam calls and reporting unwanted numbers.
What to Consider Before Signing Up
One important detail is that there are no discounts for adding new lines, suggesting the plan is aimed at individuals rather than households. Those seeking multiple lines should instead consider Unlimited Welcome, which costs around £21 per line when four lines are taken. That plan, however, provides only standard 5G speeds, which are half as fast as Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband.
Verizon has also waived activation and upgrade fees, long-standing points of contention in the industry. This represents a saving of roughly £31 each time a customer acquires a new device.
Unlimited hotspot, cloud storage, international travel, Apple services, and streaming bundles can be added from around £16 per month with a discount, or approximately £25 per month without one. Customers may bring their own unlocked device from a previous carrier or take advantage of Verizon’s monthly financing options.
