Spotify AI Persona Label to Flag AI Artists in Search

Spotify AI Persona Label to Flag AI Artists in Search
Spotify's AI Persona label will flag AI artists across profiles, songs and search from mid-September, with self-reporting opening on 11 August.

Spotify’s AI Persona label is arriving as a new way for music fans to distinguish AI artists from human creatives on the platform. The streamer confirmed on Tuesday that the badge will begin appearing in profiles, songs, search results and an artist’s About section from mid-September.

Listeners worried about AI tracks slipping into carefully tuned playlists have some reassurance. Spotify explained that AI Personas will be excluded from personalised recommendations by default, unless a listener chooses to follow the AI Personas account or a specific AI music profile.

How Spotify identifies AI artists

From 11 August, accounts can self-report through Spotify for Artists, while Spotify will also carry out its own reviews and apply the AI Persona label where appropriate. The streamer said it will examine artist profiles and identify those whose public identity, including name and imagery, appears to represent photorealistic AI-generated identities.

Transparency is built into the feature. When a listener clicks the badge, they will be able to see whether the artist disclosed their AI identity themselves or whether Spotify classified them as an AI artist.

Flagging and appeals for artists

Over the coming months, Spotify will let listeners flag suspected AI profiles. Artists who believe they have been incorrectly designated as AI will be able to appeal. The company clarified that the initiative concerns verifying an artist’s authentic identity, not how the music itself was produced.

The AI Persona label is one of the latest measures aimed at helping listeners tell AI and human artists apart. Alongside a range of AI tools that let subscribers curate their listening experience, Spotify has introduced artist profile protection, verification badges and policies designed to tackle deepfakes.

The badge will start appearing across profiles, songs, search results and About sections from mid-September, with self-reporting through Spotify for Artists opening on 11 August.
