What the leaked image reveals

As with its predecessor, the Xperia 10 VIII features a double camera setup housed within a horizontal camera bar. The most noticeable difference concerns the material used for the rear panel, which appears translucent. Combined with the glass elements shown in Sony’s teaser for the 25 August event, this points to a possible frosted glass back.

A Geekbench benchmark indicates the phone may run Android 16 while retaining the same Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 chipset and 8GB of RAM found in the previous generation. A separate leak suggests the 3.5 mm headphone jack will remain, a feature Sony has credited as part of the appeal of the flagship Xperia 1 VIII.
The handset may follow a pattern similar to the Xperia 10 V, which carried the same internal specifications as its predecessor while introducing changes to the camera and display. That precedent raises the possibility of at least some improvements in those areas.
One factor potentially influencing the update strategy is the ongoing memory price crisis, which has driven up costs across consumer electronics. Budget and mid-range smartphones rank among the most affected devices, and speculation suggests Sony may be limiting upgrades in an effort to keep the price down.
