Samsung Smart Switch: Easier Setup, Copies More iPhone Data
Samsung Smart Switch in One UI 9 adds a simpler setup and copies more iPhone data, including passwords, passkeys, call history and eSIM details.

Samsung Smart Switch has been overhauled in One UI 9, delivering a simpler set-up process and the ability to copy more data when moving to a Galaxy device. The changes are aimed at making it easier to migrate from an iPhone to a new Samsung handset.

If you are switching from an iPhone to a Galaxy Z8 foldable, you no longer need to install Smart Switch on the iPhone itself. The app on the Android side generates a QR code that you scan using the iPhone’s camera app. After confirming a few options, the transfer is ready to begin.

More data carried across from your old iPhone

The updated app now copies a wider range of content. The transfer includes passwords and passkeys, call history, accessibility settings and eSIM information. As before, it also moves photos, contacts, messages, calendars and apps.

Your new Galaxy phone will offer to launch Smart Switch during the initial set-up, but you can also run it later. This may prove useful if, for example, you had been using an iPhone as a second device and now wish to move away from it.

A more familiar experience after switching

Samsung has also considered the experience once the move is complete. New One UI 9 devices, along with older models running One UI 8.5, are compatible with Apple’s AirDrop. This allows Quick Share to send and receive files from iPhones.

You can additionally use Good Lock to adjust the One UI interface so it feels more familiar. Options include customising home screen layouts, changing swipe gesture settings and personalising the phone’s theme, among others.

Which devices support One UI 9

At present, One UI 9 is limited to the Galaxy Z Fold8, Z Fold8 Ultra and Z Flip8. It is due to reach more devices soon. Galaxy S26 phones are on their fifth One UI 9 beta, while A-series models such as the Galaxy A57 and the Galaxy A16 5G are also part of the beta testing.

Pixel phones running Android 17 offer a similarly upgraded experience, the result of collaboration between Apple and Google over a considerable period.
