Motorola’s Android 17 update brings a lengthy list of improvements to Moto devices, and the company has now detailed the changes arriving with the software. The rollout covers the Razr Fold, Razr Ultra (2026), Motorola Signature and dozens of other handsets, following the earlier announcement of the eligible device list.
Motorola’s version of Android 17 ships with a refreshed interface, an upgraded Quick Settings menu and expanded cross-platform file sharing. The update also introduces device management features alongside AI and anti-scam security protections.
Interface and usability changes
The most noticeable updates concern the interface and everyday usability of the software. Motorola’s changelog outlines several areas of change. The System Layout gains a refreshed Quick Settings panel and redesigned system menus with larger touch targets and streamlined navigation. Display and Personalisation brings an updated home screen interface, refined display settings and enhanced HDR brightness management.
Widgets now support snap-scrolling for smoother browsing within smaller screen footprints, while Accessibility receives structural updates to vision settings, display scaling and screen magnification to simplify control adjustments.
Connectivity, privacy and AI additions
Beyond the visual overhaul, Motorola phones gain the option to use Quick Share to send files to iOS devices via AirDrop. The software also brings Instant Hotspot and Nearby Audio Streams, enabling easier tethering setup and quick audio broadcast to nearby compatible devices.
On the AI front, Motorola adds Circle to Search, giving its phones access to the visual lookup tool. The package includes automated scam detection, security locks and smarter notification management tools.
Motorola’s support portal also lists the broader Android 17 changes that are not exclusive to its devices, including stackable widgets, themed icons, notification organisation features and new sharing options within Connected devices.
When Motorola phones receive Android 17
Despite the official list of changes, there is limited clarity on Motorola’s rollout plans. The list the company originally shared included the unannounced Edge 70 Neo, yet omitted several older devices expected to receive updates, such as some Edge 50 models, the Edge 60 Neo and the Razr (2024).
Motorola has a mixed record with software update timing, and no firm rollout schedule has been confirmed. Several users have reported that various Moto phones are already receiving the update.
