Meta has been ordered to pay an additional sum in a New Mexico lawsuit concerning child exploitation on its platforms, adding to penalties already imposed earlier in the legal proceedings.
The latest ruling requires the company to pay EUR 492 million, equivalent to roughly £447 million. This figure comes on top of the EUR 325 million, around £296 million, that Meta was ordered to pay in the same lawsuit in March 2026.
Details of the New Mexico Ruling
The case, brought in New Mexico, centres on allegations relating to child exploitation on Meta’s platforms. The most recent decision represents a further financial penalty against the company, meaning the combined total ordered across both rulings now stands considerably higher than the initial March judgment.
Together, the two rulings amount to a combined figure of EUR 817 million, or approximately £743 million, when the earlier penalty is taken into account alongside the latest order.
