The M6 MacBook Pro is expected to deliver a notable performance boost while retaining the current design of Apple’s 14-inch laptop. Although Apple is preparing to overhaul the MacBook Pro line with OLED panels and touchscreen support, one further model will continue to use the existing chassis.
Known internally as the J804, the base model 14-inch MacBook Pro is likely to mark the debut of the M6 chip. Rather than introducing a fresh look, this machine keeps the familiar form factor while focusing its upgrades on internal performance.
What stays the same
According to current expectations, the M6 MacBook Pro will carry over much of what defines the present model. It is set to feature the same miniLED display with ProMotion support, the same six-speaker sound system, and the same selection of ports.
Pricing is also expected to remain consistent. The base configuration is anticipated to keep a starting price of around £1,575, in line with the current M5 model. That continuity suggests the emphasis is firmly on raw speed rather than a redesign or new feature set.
Where the gains arrive
The most significant change is expected to come from the chip itself. The M6 is tipped to be considerably more powerful than its predecessor, offering performance improvements without altering the wider hardware package.
This positions the base model as a straightforward step up in capability for users who value processing power over cosmetic changes. The more substantial redesign, complete with OLED panels and touchscreen support, is reserved for other models in the refreshed line-up.
The base M6 MacBook Pro is expected to arrive in the same laptop chassis as the current generation, with the new chip as its central upgrade.
