iPhone X & 2018 MacBook Pro Now Obsolete at Apple

iPhone X & 2018 MacBook Pro Now Obsolete at Apple - iPhone X obsolete
Apple has added the iPhone X and 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro to its obsolete products list, ending official repairs and parts support for both devices.

The iPhone X and the 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro have been added to Apple’s obsolete products list, a change based on when each device stopped being offered for sale. As a result, repairs for both models will no longer be available through Apple.

The company now classifies the iPhone X as an obsolete product, closing off official service options for owners who still rely on the handset.

A landmark iPhone reaches the end of support

The iPhone X launched in 2017 and marked a significant shift in Apple’s design approach. It was the first iPhone to feature Face ID in place of a Touch ID Home button, introducing facial recognition as the primary means of unlocking the device. The model also brought an OLED screen to the iPhone for the first time, a display technology that has since become standard across the range.

That release now sits almost a decade in the past, and with it the iPhone X moves beyond the window in which Apple provides hardware support.

How Apple classifies vintage and obsolete devices

Apple applies specific criteria when determining the status of its hardware. A device is labelled vintage when the company stopped distributing it for sale more than five years ago, but less than seven years ago. Once a product has not been sold new for more than seven years, it is designated as obsolete.

The distinction matters for owners seeking repairs. Apple offers service and parts for vintage products for up to seven years, provided the necessary replacement parts remain available. For obsolete products, that support ends entirely, meaning the iPhone X and 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro no longer qualify for repairs or parts through official channels.

The move reflects the standard lifecycle Apple applies to its hardware as newer models take their place. Owners of the affected devices will now need to look beyond Apple for any future servicing needs.
