The iPhone 18 Pro and the Pixel 11 Pro represent the latest premium efforts from Apple and Google, and while both place photography at the heart of their appeal, the two handsets diverge sharply once you look beyond the cameras. Apple’s device starts at roughly £950, while Google’s rival comes in slightly lower at around £870.
Apple’s new Pro remains the natural choice for creatives. It introduces a variable aperture that controls light exposure during photography, alongside long battery life that makes it well suited to sustained media capture. The trade-off is cost: at its starting price it sits about £80 above the base iPhone 17 Pro and also above the Pixel 11 Pro. That increase mirrors the wider market, with an ongoing memory shortage pushing electronics prices upward.
Google has answered with its own camera improvements. The Pixel 11 Pro carries a larger sensor on its 48-megapixel telephoto camera, promising a 30% increase in light capture compared with the 10 Pro. That same telephoto module powers the phone’s 30x digital zoom and its 120x Pro Zoom, the latter drawing on generative AI to clean up images shot at extreme distances. The Pixel 11 Pro received a price rise of its own over last year’s model.
Design and Display
Both phones resemble their predecessors, yet each pursues a distinct look. The iPhone 18 Pro uses an aluminium unibody design and adopts a cleaner monotone finish in place of the dual-tone look of the 17 Pro. It arrives in four colours: burgundy red, glacier blue, silver and black.
The Pixel 11 Pro emphasises its full-width camera bar, now finished with edge-to-edge glass for a more uniform appearance. Its colour options are canyon, an orange-pink shade, fog white, olive green and obsidian black. Both handsets feature colour-matched frames for a seamless finish. The Pixel is the lighter of the two in the hand, weighing 204 grams against the iPhone’s 211 grams.
Each phone has a 6.3-inch OLED display with a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate, and both carry an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance, making them safe for use in environments such as the beach where sand and water are a concern.
Software and Standout Features
The two devices showcase the newest platforms from each company, with iOS 27 on the iPhone and Android 17 on the Pixel. On the iPhone 18 Pro, a smaller Dynamic Island houses the selfie camera and Face ID sensor. It can now display up to three Live Activities simultaneously, allowing you to check active timers or the progress of a rideshare vehicle heading to collect you.
The iPhone 18 Pro’s display is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, the same material used on the 17 Pro. Apple’s handset weighs 211 grams and the Pixel 11 Pro 204 grams, in both cases roughly the weight of a medium apple.
