AI photo animation is transforming how we revisit old memories, turning static family snapshots into short moving clips. As physical photo albums, CDs and cameras give way to cloud storage, the very technology behind that shift can also bring milestones back into focus. One tool putting this into practice is AliveMoment, an image-to-video service designed to animate cherished pictures.
Animated photos can serve as a meaningful gift for a milestone birthday or a wedding anniversary. They can also be a way to keep a loved one who has passed close, provided the AI recreates the original moment accurately, and can help connect family members who have never met, such as grandparents and grandchildren.
AliveMoment was released in August 2025 and runs on a credit-based subscription model. It was chosen for its no-prompt process and its photo restoration features, which aim to lift the quality of grainy older images.
Getting set up
The most time-consuming part of the process was locating suitable old photos, many of which sit in boxes and on hard drives, while others live on social media profiles or in the cloud. After some searching, a handful of childhood images surfaced, including baby photos with siblings and one featuring a grandmother, though all three were of poor quality.
One image was uploaded to AliveMoment to test the improvement options. The platform offers several animation types, including adding a wave or a hug. For a photo of siblings, the “playful motion” option was selected. After signing up, the photo was processed in a few seconds before the finished “live moment” was ready to view.
Pricing and results
Viewing the result required purchasing a subscription first. Although the service is presented as per-credit pricing, users are charged for the first week, month or two months upfront. The cheapest plan worked out at roughly £2 per “moment” credit for testing purposes.
It is worth cancelling before renewal, as the weekly plan amounts to around £47 per month, a recurring cost that is unnecessary for occasional use. Many AI tools adopt similar pricing structures, likely to capture as many one-time customers as possible.
Inside the dashboard, the full range of features became available, allowing users to restore, retake or relive a photo. Re-uploading the sibling photo to create a motion version required an additional credit to render it in colour. The tool produced a short animated video from the original still image.
