Huawei is preparing to launch a new non-folding smartphone featuring a wide 16:10 screen aspect ratio, following the reception of the Pura X. The company has been developing the device for some time, and it is now expected to arrive in September.
According to earlier leaks, the handset will be powered by a Kirin 9-series chipset and equipped with a battery capacity of at least 7,000 mAh. The device had originally been anticipated for a release window between October and December, but it appears to have been finalised ahead of schedule.
Camera and hardware specifications
The phone is said to include a 50MP main camera built around a 1/1.3″ type sensor. Alongside this, the device is reported to feature a 50MP periscope telephoto camera and a multispectral camera, pointing to a versatile imaging setup.
The combination of a large battery, a high-capacity primary sensor and a periscope telephoto lens suggests Huawei is positioning the handset as a well-rounded option within its wide-screen line-up. The 16:10 aspect ratio remains the defining characteristic of the form factor, setting it apart from more conventional smartphone displays.
Oppo readies a rival device
Huawei is not alone in exploring this form factor. Oppo is also said to be working on its own take, with a phone featuring a 6.3″ to 6.4″ screen and the same 16:10 aspect ratio.
Oppo’s version is reported to carry a flagship chipset and a triple rear camera arrangement that includes a periscope telephoto lens. That device is expected to arrive in the first half of next year, placing it some months behind Huawei’s anticipated September launch.
