The Honor Robot Phone was made official last week after many months of teasers and showcases, arriving as a distinctive device thanks to its integrated gimbal camera. Despite the name, it isn’t actually a robot, but that gimbal camera houses numerous moving parts, meaning a drop while the mechanism is extended could result in costly damage.
What repairs will cost
Should you break the gimbal camera, you will need to pay a hefty £350 to have it replaced. The figure appears on Honor’s official website in China, which has now published repair pricing for the handset. Replacing the telephoto camera costs around £100, while the ultrawide comes to roughly £22. The considerable gap between the three components reflects the complexity of the gimbal assembly itself.
Other repairs are more modest by comparison. A new screen for the Robot Phone works out at approximately £155, while a replacement battery costs around £36.
The most expensive component
Surprisingly, the gimbal camera is not the priciest part to replace. That distinction belongs to the motherboard. For the 12GB/512GB version, a new motherboard costs about £515, while the 16GB/1TB variant pushes that figure up to roughly £740.
These sums are substantial, though they should be weighed against the price of the phone itself. The Honor Robot Phone retails at around £1,120 with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, rising to approximately £1,455 for the model with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
