Gemini 3.5 Transcribe is Google’s newest transcription model, adding the ability to automatically detect specialised jargon and support more than 85 languages. The addition to Gemini Audio follows the launch of 3.5 Live Translate, and arrives while users continue to wait for the Gemini 3.5 Pro model that Google had promised.
According to Google, 3.5 Transcribe represents a major advancement over its previous transcription model, Chirp 3, particularly when it comes to multilingual performance and wording error rates. The tool allows users to edit naturally using only their voice, and can automatically format text while removing filler words such as “um” and “uh”.
What Gemini 3.5 Transcribe can do
Users can supply a customised vocabulary to the model, enabling 3.5 Transcribe to automatically adapt transcription to unique spelling requirements and specialised jargon. This prevents such words from having to be corrected manually. The model can also attribute speech for up to three speakers in pre-recorded audio, alongside providing word-level timestamps.
Google had initially indicated that 3.5 Live and 3.5 Live Experimental updates would arrive in Gemini Audio, building on the existing speech recognition technology that powers Gemini’s voice chat mode. Google later clarified that these additional models are not being launched yet, and did not provide a new date. Based on information Google had previously shared, Gemini 3.5 Live is designed to better handle mid-sentence interruptions, language recognition and live visual processing, while Gemini 3.5 Live Experimental goes further by narrating its progress step by step in real time as it works through more complex reasoning tasks.
Where the model is available
Gemini 3.5 Transcribe is rolling out in English for all macOS Gemini app users, along with the Rambler dictation feature on Android in selected countries and languages. It is also available for developers in public preview through the Gemini API via AI Studio and Antigravity. Google says that Chrome support is coming soon.
Google had referenced both 3.5 Live and 3.5 Live Experimental in details shared ahead of the announcement, but now says that only 3.5 Transcribe is being announced.
