Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra Faces Battery Life Downgrade
The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra may face a battery life downgrade despite keeping the same 11,600 mAh cell, according to a leaked EU Energy label.

The Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra may arrive with weaker battery performance than its predecessor, according to a newly surfaced EU Energy label. The two Galaxy Tab S12 tablets have already leaked in extensive detail, revealing their external design and nearly every specification, pointing to a modest refresh with only minor improvements. Now, a battery downgrade appears to be part of the picture for at least one model.

Battery endurance drops on the top-tier model

Although the Galaxy Tab S12 Ultra retains the same 11,600 mAh battery found in the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, its rated endurance may be lower this time round. A leaked EPREL label covering both the Wi-Fi and 5G variants lists the tablet at 88 hours and 54 minutes, a notable fall from the 94 hours and 51 minutes recorded by the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra last year, amounting to a decrease of roughly six hours.

The reason for the apparent reduction is unclear. Samsung is keeping the same battery capacity, and the tablet’s chipset is expected to deliver both stronger performance and greater efficiency, which typically extends how long a device lasts on a single charge.

Chipset and testing considerations

Both last year’s Dimensity 9400+ and the Dimensity 9500 expected on the new model are built on TSMC’s 3 nm process. A key difference is that the newer chip runs at higher clock speeds, which may affect efficiency, particularly under heavier workloads.

The figure shown on EPREL labels comes from a standardised test rather than real-world usage, which makes it a useful metric for comparing devices even if it does not reflect everyday performance. Official battery estimates from Samsung will offer a clearer picture once available. The change is unlikely to have a significant effect on actual battery life compared with last year’s model, which was noted for decent endurance.

Better figures for the Galaxy Tab S12 Plus

The smaller Galaxy Tab S12 Plus is estimated at 80 hours and 34 minutes according to its EU Energy label. That represents an improvement of around seven hours over the Galaxy Tab S10 Plus, alongside a 27-minute decrease compared with the base Galaxy Tab S11.

Both Tab S12 models are expected to launch on 7 October with One UI 9 out of the box. They will be offered only in silver and grey finishes, and both are anticipated to carry noticeably higher prices than their predecessors.
