Galaxy S27 Ultra Battery Upgrade Beats M16 Display in Poll

Galaxy S27 Ultra Battery Upgrade Beats M16 Display in Poll
A reader poll on the Galaxy S27 Ultra found a larger battery beat the M16 display and revised rear cameras as the most wanted upgrade.

The Galaxy S27 Ultra has been the subject of mounting speculation for months, and when readers were asked which rumour they most wanted to see confirmed, a larger battery emerged as the clear favourite. The preference is understandable, given that the Galaxy S26 Ultra retained a 5,000mAh cell while the iPhone 18 Pro Max and many rivals moved beyond that figure.

In a poll tied to the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s Chinese certification, the battery capacity increase claimed 62.08% of the vote. The M16 display followed at 23.21%, while the reworked placement of the rear cameras trailed with 14.72%. A brighter screen, in other words, lost out to a component Samsung has left unchanged since 2020.

The battery rumour stems from a listing with China’s 3C (China Compulsory Certification), the mandatory safety mark that electronics require before sale in the country. It points to a 5,700mAh battery. The leaker known as Anthony (@TheGalox) repeated the figure and added that both the S27 Ultra and the S27 Pro would use the M16 display.

How a 5,700mAh cell compares with the iPhone 18 Pro Max

Samsung has fitted every Ultra model with a 5,000mAh battery since the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020, so 5,700mAh would represent a 14% increase within a single generation.

Phone batteries are typically described using two figures. The rated capacity is the minimum every cell is guaranteed to hold, while the typical capacity is the average across a manufacturing batch, and it is the latter that Samsung prints on the box.

Across the run of leaks, the S27 Ultra’s rated capacity has been reported at 5,534mAh, which equates to roughly 5,700mAh typical, and the 3C figure appears to align with that. Should it hold, 5,700mAh is likely the same kind of number Samsung has always advertised, making the 14% jump a fair comparison with the S26 Ultra.

Capacity, however, tells only part of the story, and the iPhone 18 Pro Max illustrates the point. The US eSIM model carries a 5,567mAh battery, so a 5,700mAh S27 Ultra would be just over 2% larger. In battery testing, the iPhone 18 Pro Max ran for 12 hours and 49 minutes, a result that placed it well ahead of the field.

Current Samsung foldable offers

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is currently available for around £860, down from roughly £1,650, a saving of about £790 with an eligible trade-in. Buyers who prefer not to trade in a device can instead receive around £155 in Samsung credit.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is listed at approximately £625, reduced from about £940, with savings of up to £315 available via trade-in. A no-trade-in option provides around £80 in Samsung credit.
