Claude is gaining two new productivity tools designed to rival Google’s offerings: Docs and Slides. The additions allow users to create documents and presentations directly through Claude chats, then export, edit and share them with others.
Alongside the launch, Anthropic is streamlining how Claude conversations function, merging standard chats and Cowork into a single experience described as “one Claude”. This brings all of the platform’s AI productivity tools within reach of any chat, with Artifacts and Claude Design capabilities also available through the unified interface. According to Anthropic, Claude “can now figure out what a task needs, so what Cowork and Design can do is available from any conversation, with the context, skills, and connectors you already have”.
What Claude Docs and Slides Offer
Both Claude Docs and Slides are launching in beta, joining Claude Design among the platform’s productivity features. Users can prompt Claude to generate documents and presentations from any chat, request changes to whatever it produces, or make edits manually.
Much like Google Docs, Claude Docs begin as private documents that can then be shared with other editors, who can work on the same file simultaneously. Collaborators, including Claude itself, can leave comments similar to those found in a Google Doc. Anthropic says anything created with Claude Design, Slides or Docs lives at a single shareable link that can be opened on a phone.
Closing the Gap With Google
Anthropic’s models are widely regarded as more advanced than Google’s, yet Google’s AI services benefit from being natively integrated into its suite of productivity tools. Earlier, Google expanded Gemini‘s role across Google Docs, Sheets and Slides, adding a Gemini chat window in Docs, the ability to generate and edit entire documents, and tools for creating slides.
The arrival of Docs and Slides in Claude begins to narrow the distance between Anthropic’s AI platform and Google’s productivity tools, giving users fewer reasons to step away from a Claude chat in favour of other applications.
The “one Claude” update is rolling out first to Pro and Max users on web, desktop and mobile over the coming weeks, with access for Team and Free users arriving later. Anthropic states there is “nothing to turn on” for the update, and users can continue using Claude chat as normal.
