The Apple Watch Series 12 could mark the return of a ceramic body, according to fresh rumours from a serial leaker who has weighed in on the material’s revival.
Apple is expected to release the Apple Watch Series 12 this autumn, though it is not anticipated to be a major upgrade or redesign. Even so, speculation is building around the comeback of a premium material last used several years ago.
In a post to X on 19 August, leaker Kosutami wrote briefly that ceramic was returning and would appear with the Series 12. The remark added no new detail to the conversation, but it lent weight to existing reports on the subject.
The origins of the rumour
The first mention of a ceramic revival for the upcoming generation came in a Bloomberg newsletter published on 9 August by Mark Gurman, who wrote about ceramic returning to the Apple Watch, potentially in 2026 with the Series 12. That report marked the earliest instance of the claim for the next round of wearables.
Kosutami holds a relatively mixed record for accuracy, and it is unclear whether the latest post simply echoes the earlier rumour. Nevertheless, Gurman’s initial report makes the possibility appear more credible than if the claim stood alone.
A history of ceramic on the Apple Watch
Ceramic was first introduced with the Apple Watch Edition Series 2, a premium variant offered in white. The Apple Watch Edition Series 3 added a grey ceramic case option alongside the white finish.
The Edition line was absent from the Apple Watch Series 4 in 2018, but returned with the Apple Watch Edition Series 5 a year later. It then disappeared again with the Series 6 and has not been used by Apple since.
Should a ceramic model ship this autumn, it is likely to command a high price. For reference, the Apple Watch Series 5 cost roughly £315 or £340 depending on size, with stainless steel and titanium cases starting from around £550 and £630 respectively at launch. By contrast, ceramic at the time started at approximately £1,025.
