Adobe Photoshop is receiving an AI-heavy update that introduces a new optional interface built around its artificial intelligence tools. Rolling out in beta, the AI Assisted Editor view collects all of Photoshop’s AI features into a single toolbar, bringing together the prompt-based image editor, background remover, an AI image extender and more.
The update reflects Adobe’s continued push to place generative AI at the centre of its flagship photo-editing software, giving users a dedicated workspace for AI-driven adjustments alongside the traditional editing environment.
Markup Feature Lets You Draw Your Edits
Among the new additions is a markup tool that allows users to draw directly on an image to indicate to Photoshop’s AI assistant what they would like to change. Rather than relying solely on written instructions, users can select areas to recolour, sketch arrows to indicate position, or brush in rough shapes to suggest new elements.
This approach offers a more visual method of communicating edits, moving beyond text prompts and giving users greater control over how the AI interprets their intentions.
Instruct Edit With Masks Gains Wider Context
Adobe is also updating its Instruct Edit with Masks feature, which lets users edit a mask using natural language prompts. The company says its Firefly Image 5 model now understands the entire context of an image, removing the need to manually mark every area intended for editing.
Instead, users can simply describe the change they want, such as opening closed eyes or placing a hat on someone’s head, and the tool applies the adjustment based on that description. By recognising the broader context of a photograph, the model aims to reduce the manual effort previously required for detailed edits.
The features are launching in beta, marking the latest expansion of AI capabilities within Photoshop’s editing suite.
