Siri AI is being designed so users can swap it out for alternatives such as Claude or ChatGPT, according to code references uncovered in the latest beta releases of Apple’s software. Substantial references found within iOS 27 and the macOS Golden Gate betas indicate that Apple has already prepared its voice assistant to be almost entirely replaceable.
The discovery was made by a developer who previously located watchOS code relating to the then-unannounced Readiness app. The same frequent leaker, known as “pdfu”, has now surfaced code references suggesting that Siri AI can be substituted with third-party models. Beyond the references themselves, a demonstration has shown Claude operating in place of Siri AI.
How the replacement mechanism works
The betas contain private hooks that allow applications to add Siri Extensions. These same hooks make it possible to replace Siri AI’s server backend with third-party models. In practice, this means the familiar Siri interface could be retained while a different underlying system handles the processing, or the assistant could be swapped out more comprehensively.
Under this arrangement, users could potentially keep the existing interface but connect it to Claude, or replace the assistant entirely with ChatGPT if they preferred. The flexibility appears to extend to both the front-end experience and the server-side model that responds to queries.
What the beta code reveals
The presence of these hooks in pre-release software shows that Apple has structured Siri AI with modularity in mind. Rather than being a fixed, closed system, the assistant is set up to accommodate external services at the backend level. The code references were identified across both the mobile and desktop beta builds, spanning iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate.
Findings drawn from beta software reflect work in progress and do not confirm which capabilities will reach a final public release. Features present in test builds can be altered or withdrawn before general availability. What the current code demonstrates is that the technical groundwork for substituting Siri AI with alternative large language models is already in place within the beta releases of iOS 27 and macOS Golden Gate.
