Nothing OS 5.0 has expanded its Open Beta to a second device, bringing Android 17 to the Nothing Phone (4a) Pro. The build has been available on the Phone (3) since late August, and owners of the Phone (4a) Pro can now pull the same update that Pixel 10 Pro users have had for some time. As with Apple’s annual iPhone updates, this release focuses largely on how the interface looks.
Nothing confirmed the rollout on its community forum. The 2.73GB download is arriving more than a week after the early September window the company had set for itself.
What Nothing OS 5.0 changes on the Phone (4a) Pro
Most of the changes concern the visual presentation, and these are the ones users will notice first. The Geist typeface appears throughout, alongside rebuilt settings and camera screens and wider dark theme support. Glyph features have been moved into a dedicated app, joined by Collector, Away Time and Glyph Timer widgets.
The update also introduces dual-view video, which records with the front and rear cameras at the same time. Android 17 additionally brings separate notification and Quick Settings panels.
Not everyone is getting past the check version screen. A Phone (4a) Pro owner reported following Nothing’s official steps and confirming the correct build, only for the beta app to state the system version was not eligible. Nothing’s community thread contains dozens of replies reporting a network error at the same check version step, and a member of the Nothing team said they were looking into the download link.
The features still missing from this build
Nothing has confirmed that the refreshed home screen and the Micrographics clock face, the two changes many owners were waiting for, remain in development. They will arrive with the general release starting in October. Carl Pei has already conceded that the company may have moved too quickly.
Enrollment runs through the Nothing Beta Hub app, and the access channel stays open for seven days before it closes to new participants. It is not currently available in Japan, as local certification there is still pending.
Because this is beta software, it may interfere with device data and require a factory reset, in which case data will be lost. Nothing strongly recommends backing up all data before accessing the software. To join, users should download the latest Nothing Beta Hub APK from Nothing’s dedicated OS 5.0 page, open the app and sign in with a Nothing account, then tap check version and wait, as the build can take up to five minutes to appear. If a stable update shows up first, that should be installed before checking again.
The general release for the Phone (4a) Pro is scheduled to begin in October.
