The iPhone Duo is set to enter a wide-screen phone market where a rival has already found early success without any folding mechanism. The Huawei Pura X View has climbed the sales charts in China, offering a broad display shaped by its aspect ratio rather than a hinge.

Data circulating on Weibo indicates that the Pura X View sold more than 280,000 units within its first five days on sale. That figure was reportedly enough to make it the best-selling individual wide-screen phone from any brand during week 37 of 2026, placing it ahead of rivals including the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
The number originates from a single source rather than Huawei or an analyst firm, so it should be treated as indicative rather than audited. The phone never folds, which sets it apart from much of the wide-screen category that has pursued similar form factors for six years.
Hardware and screen shape
The Pura X View runs a 5nm Kirin 9030S chip, a processing node several generations behind other flagships released this year. Its camera setup includes a 200MP main sensor and a 50MP periscope offering 3.7x optical zoom. A 7,000 mAh battery sits inside a body measuring 6.68 mm thick.
The defining feature is the 5:3 aspect ratio display. Screen sizes are typically quoted as a diagonal, which can obscure how a change in aspect ratio affects usable area. A 6.39-inch panel and a 6.9-inch flagship screen both amount to roughly 18 square inches of display. The difference lies in the shape: at 5:3, the Pura X View is about 10 mm wider across the screen and around 20 mm shorter than a typical 19.5:9 flagship panel.
Those proportions resemble those of the original Kindle, giving the device the character of a reading and video tool rather than a scrolling one. Two apps can run side by side without compromise, web pages avoid narrow columns, and video fills the frame instead of sitting between black bars.
Samsung’s own range has demonstrated part of this argument. The Galaxy Z Fold 8, priced at around £1,500, offered a passport-shaped foldable, and a wider body was identified as the element that made the design more coherent. Early pre-order figures showed the cheaper and lighter Fold 8 outselling the Ultra variant, suggesting shape was proving more decisive than raw specifications.
The iPhone Duo pre-order date has been circled for 16 October, placing Apple’s device into a market segment where wide, hingeless designs are already gaining traction.
