The iPad is reportedly preparing for one of its most notable external changes in years, with upcoming models expected to feature significantly slimmer bezels around the display. The shift would bring Apple’s tablet line closer in appearance to rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S11 series, which have carried narrower bezels for some time.
According to a recent report, the next generation of iPad models will arrive with reduced borders surrounding the screen. The change is anticipated to make the devices look considerably more modern, addressing a long-standing design element that has set Apple’s tablets apart from much of the competition.
Narrower bezels and internal upgrades
Beyond the thinner bezels, the forthcoming iPad range is expected to include improved processors, possibly more RAM, and slight enhancements to thermal management. Placed alongside competitors, current iPad models have often appeared dated due to their comparatively thick borders.
Apple has retained wider bezels on the iPad for several generations. One explanation put forward is that larger borders reduce the likelihood of a palm touching the display during use, though many rival tablets with slimmer bezels appear to function without issue. The modern iPad Pro models remain visually striking, yet the bezels have stood out as a noticeable point of criticism, particularly when compared with Galaxy devices.
A design change aimed at driving upgrades
Aside from the move to OLED displays, recent iPad models have shipped with few external changes significant enough to prompt the average consumer to upgrade. Faster processing speeds and Apple Intelligence features have been welcomed, but many customers have not viewed these additions as compelling reasons to purchase a new device.
Slimmer bezels could represent the kind of visible change that encourages renewed interest in the category. While iPad sales have remained steady, the line has not experienced the sharp growth seen recently by the iPhone and MacBook ranges.
The combination of narrower borders and OLED panels would mark two of the more meaningful external updates to the iPad in recent memory, positioning the next models as a clearer upgrade over previous generations. The upcoming iPad range is set to pair the slimmer bezels with the internal improvements already expected across the line.
