The Motorola Signature 27 is heading to the United States this November, arriving as a direct rival to the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The handset stands out as the first phone announced with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6, a chip that marks a step forward for Motorola’s flagship ambitions.
Much of the early attention focused on the camera, and for good reason. While many assumed the 200MP sensor would sit behind the main lens, Motorola has confirmed that the 200MP sensor is actually a periscope telephoto unit. It works alongside a 50MP Sony LYTIA 910 main camera, giving the device an unusual configuration compared with its closest competitors.
Why the 200MP Sensor Sits Behind the Zoom
The 200MP chip is Sony’s LYTIA 901, designed to crop into its own pixels for up to 4x in-sensor zoom. A processing circuit built into the sensor rebuilds fine details such as text and patterns. Paired with a periscope lens, this approach is intended to reach distant subjects without the soft results typical of standard digital zoom, before Motorola’s AI-assisted Super Zoom Pro extends the range all the way to 100x.
This layout is close to the reverse of the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which keeps its 200MP sensor on the main camera and pairs it with a 50MP 5x periscope and a 10MP 3x zoom. The Pixel 11 Pro XL uses a 48MP 5x telephoto and stretches Pro Res Zoom to 120x, while Apple lists 8x optical-quality zoom and 40x digital for the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
What the Signature 27 Means for US Buyers
For buyers in the United States, availability is the biggest change. The original Signature never launched there, but Motorola’s US page now states that the Signature 27 is coming this November, with sign-ups for updates already open.
Several important details remain undisclosed. The price, the full specification sheet and the other two rear cameras have yet to be revealed, and Motorola has not shared a single sample photo of the handset’s camera performance. Those waiting for more information before making a decision will need to hold on a little longer, as the key details that matter most are still being withheld ahead of the November arrival.
