Withings BeamO is set to receive a significant upgrade with the arrival of a new artificial intelligence analysis service. The BeamO is a three-in-one, FDA-cleared device that combines a stethoscope, an electrocardiogram and a thermometer in a single unit, first launched in November.
At IFA 2026, Withings introduced StethO Sense, a service available to Withings+ subscribers from 1 October. The service applies third-party AI analysis software to the heart and lung recordings captured by BeamO, aiming to give households more health data to share with a medical professional.
According to Withings, StethO Sense uses eMurmur Heart AI to detect abnormal heart murmurs and StethoMe to provide insights into breathing sounds. The company stresses that the service does not replace a doctor’s visit but supplements it, allowing families to record heart sounds at home in seconds and build a record they can bring to an appointment.
How the AI analysis works
eMurmur is a medical AI company behind the FDA-cleared eMurmur Heart AI for heart sound analysis. Its algorithm has been validated in peer-reviewed clinical studies covering both children and adults. Within seconds, eMurmur can analyse BeamO’s heart sound recordings, taken at one of four positions, to distinguish between no heart murmur, abnormal murmurs and innocent murmurs. It also supplies a confidence score for its findings.
StethoMe specialises in pulmonary sound analysis and offers an age-based protocol, using six lung-recording points for children and eight for adults. It produces a Breathing Index score ranging from zero to 100, based on breathing quality, sounds and rate, alongside respiratory rhythm and heart rate, helping people identify changes in their breathing patterns. StethoMe is intended for general lung sound tracking and is not designed for people with a diagnosed respiratory condition such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or bronchitis.
Availability and pricing
StethO Sense sits within the Withings app, though a Withings+ premium membership is required to access it. The subscription costs around £8 per month or roughly £79 per year. Users can go to the StethO Sense section and select either a heart or lung recording for analysis, with results delivered in seconds. Both BeamO and StethO Sense can be used on children and adults.
The service was designed to complement the Withings+ Cardio Check-Up feature, which allows users to submit an ECG recording to a cardiologist for review within 24 hours, four times per year. Use of StethO Sense is unlimited, but its results are not diagnoses. All recordings and analyses are exportable for sharing with a doctor. From 1 October, Withings+ subscribers can begin using StethO Sense, which will be offered with a one-month free trial.
