Google Gemini Call for Me May Reach Friends and Family

Google Gemini Call for Me May Reach Friends and Family
Google Gemini Call for Me may expand beyond business calls, letting its AI send quick messages to friends and family through brief phone calls.

Google Gemini could soon let you send messages to friends and family through its artificial intelligence, expanding a feature previously aimed at business calls. References uncovered in an APK teardown suggest the company is preparing to broaden the scope of its Call for Me tool beyond booking appointments and contacting shops.

A “Gemini Calling” introductory screen was spotted during the teardown, complete with example prompts that hint at how the feature might work. These include requests such as “Call Mum and tell her I will be 15 minutes late” and “Call John and ask if he is coming for dinner.” The examples point to a tool designed for quick, practical communication rather than lengthy conversations.

How the expanded feature might work

Based on the available examples, the expanded Call for Me function would likely be limited to basic, text message-like calls. Rather than automating a full catch-up with relatives, the AI could deliver short messages to people who prefer a phone call, frequently miss text messages, or still rely on a landline.

The approach positions Gemini as a bridge for reaching contacts who are not easily reached through conventional messaging apps. By keeping interactions brief and purposeful, the feature would focus on relaying essential information instead of holding open-ended discussions.

Granular permissions and app controls

The teardown also revealed what appear to be granular permissions for Gemini actions within individual apps, including settings related to phone call permissions. These controls would allow users to decide which app capabilities Gemini can access, offering a way to manage how the assistant operates across different services.

Such settings could also give users the option to opt out of receiving incoming automated calls generated by Gemini. This level of control would address potential concerns about unexpected AI-driven calls arriving on the recipient’s end.

Features discovered through APK teardowns do not always reach the public, and it remains possible that Google will not release this expansion or the granular Gemini app settings at all. The references provide an early look at functionality that may still be in development as of 2026.
