A new Google device has cleared FCC certification, with the available evidence pointing to a Wear OS-powered fitness tracker. Officially described as a “Wireless Device”, the hardware was submitted by Goertek, the manufacturer already responsible for producing several generations of Pixel Buds.
The model name “G8BL6” follows the naming convention Google typically applies to its first-party hardware. The filing also includes an e-label, indicating the presence of a screen. It is accessed via Settings > System > Regulatory Information, the same route used to reach the e-label on the current Pixel Watch.
Signs of Wear OS
That shared access method suggests the device runs Wear OS. The possibility is reinforced by the use of the Android Debug Bridge (ADB) during the testing process. On connectivity, the device supports Bluetooth LE and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS), or GPS, with the former using a “Metal frame Antenna”.
Taken together, the details indicate that G8BL6 is most likely a Google fitness tracker running Wear OS. The absence of Wi-Fi is notable, however. Such a device would represent a new form factor for the platform, raising questions about whether the operating system is battery-efficient enough for the format.
A Possible Fitbit Charge Successor
The filing arrives after an unidentified Google tracker appeared in Pixel 11 advertising in August. That glimpse showed a vertical, pill-shaped display paired with a band resembling the Pixel Watch. The watch face looked familiar, including the existing Wear OS complications for fitness.
Following the Fitbit Air, the device would fit as a successor to the popular Fitbit Charge line. The Charge is currently priced at around £125 and was last updated in 2023.
