The iPhone Duo appears to share its Main camera sensor with the iPhone 17e rather than the standard iPhone 17, according to Apple’s published technical specifications.
Apple’s tech specs page for the iPhone Duo lists the Main camera as a 26mm, ƒ/1.6 sensor with sensor-shift optical image stabilisation and Hybrid Focus Pixels. The same sensor also enables a 12MP 2x Telephoto crop. The iPhone 17e’s specifications describe an identical 26mm, ƒ/1.6 Main camera with Hybrid Focus Pixels, the same autofocus terminology Apple applies to the iPhone Duo.
Where the Specifications Diverge
The two devices are not a complete match. The iPhone 17e’s specifications refer to plain “optical image stabilisation” without the “sensor-shift” qualifier, whereas the iPhone Duo’s listing includes it. That particular detail aligns instead with the standard iPhone 17, whose specifications pair sensor-shift OIS with a different autofocus term, “100% Focus Pixels.” That wording also appears on the iPhone 18 Pro’s specifications page, but not on those of the Duo or the 17e.
The implication is that the iPhone Duo’s Main camera sits somewhere between the iPhone 17e and the iPhone 17. It carries the sensor-shift optical image stabilisation of the iPhone 17, while relying on an iPhone 17e-style sensor that uses Hybrid Focus Pixels.
A Shared Sensor?
The overlapping Hybrid Focus Pixels terminology with the 17e has prompted speculation that the two devices share a sensor. Apple has not published a sensor size or pixel pitch for the iPhone Duo’s Main camera, leaving the matching Focus Pixels wording as the only official link to the 17e at present.
The iPhone Duo starts at around £1,570, with pre-orders opening on 16 October ahead of a 23 October release.
