Priced at around £535, the four-bay uGreen NASync DXP4800 Pro is a capable mid-range NAS aimed at creators and small teams working within the Apple ecosystem, offering a strong value proposition. The unit carries a list price of roughly £630, making the current cost an appealing entry point for those seeking sustained performance.
uGreen has expanded its NAS range rapidly since entering the category, and the DXP4800 Pro sits above the GT and Plus models in the four-bay lineup. It pairs a six-core Intel chip with generous memory headroom, targeting heavier workloads such as Docker, virtual machines and media processing.
At the heart of the system is an Intel Core i3-1315U, featuring six cores and eight threads across two performance cores and four efficiency cores. The standard configuration ships with 8GB of DDR5 memory, expandable across two SODIMM slots to a maximum of 96GB. A 128GB SSD handles the system storage, while the operating system is UGOS Pro. The unit measures 10.1 by 7 by 7 inches and comes with a two-year warranty.
Design and Connectivity
The DXP4800 Pro shares the appearance of its siblings, presenting as a grey-black four-bay box with front-loading drive trays. The front panel holds the power button, status LEDs, an SD card slot, a 10Gbps USB-C port and a 10Gbps USB-A port. These front-facing ports simplify quick media imports, allowing a photographer to pull card footage without reaching around the back or using a separate card reader.
The four drive bays are lockable and numbered from left to right, retaining uGreen’s tool-free, hot-swappable tray design. Round the back, the unit provides one USB-A 5Gbps port, two USB-A 2.0 ports and a 4K HDMI output. Networking is handled by a single 10GbE port alongside a 2.5GbE connection. There is no PCIe slot or Thunderbolt.
Storage Options and RAID
Each of the four bays accepts a SATA drive of up to 32TB, permitting 128TB before any additional storage is introduced. Two M.2 NVMe slots supplement the main bays, each taking up to an 8TB stick, adding 16TB of further capacity or serving as a cache for extra speed. uGreen lists a total maximum of 144TB, combining the spinning drives with the two NVMe sticks. The NVMe slots, hidden behind a hatch, deliver a genuine speed benefit, with data stored there noticeably quicker to access than material held on the SATA bays.
RAID options span JBOD, Basic, and RAID 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10, ranging from pure speed to strong redundancy depending on requirements.
Testing was conducted using four 4TB Seagate Red drives and four 24TB WD Red Pro drives, the latter retailing at around £835 each. The SSD complement included a pair of Samsung 990 Evo Plus drives and a pair of Samsung SSD 9100 Pro 1TB drives.
