Nvidia chief executive Jensen Huang has dismissed widespread concerns about the dangers of artificial intelligence, arguing that alarm over the technology is misplaced. As the head of the company that supplies much of the hardware powering the AI boom, Huang stands among those best positioned to benefit from its continued growth.
In an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, Huang said there was a “0% chance” of AI bringing about the end of the world. He went further in criticising those raising the alarm over the technology, describing such warnings as counterproductive. “Scaring people is unnecessary. It is irresponsible,” he said.
Pushback Against AI Safety Warnings
Huang directly challenged prominent voices within the industry who have urged caution. He claimed that calls from figures such as Anthropic chief executive Dario Amodei and OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman to slow the pace of AI development were “not grounded in science.” His remarks place him at odds with several leaders of the companies building the most advanced AI systems.
His stance also runs counter to that of researchers who have spent decades studying and developing the technology, many of whom have publicly voiced concerns about its long-term risks. Huang’s position reflects a markedly more optimistic view of where the field is heading.
No Case for New Regulation
Beyond dismissing the risks, Huang argued against the introduction of fresh oversight for the sector. He suggested there was no need for new rules, laws, or guidelines to govern the development of artificial intelligence, signalling opposition to the regulatory measures that some governments and industry figures have called for.
The comments arrive as debate over how, and whether, to regulate AI continues among policymakers, researchers, and the executives leading the companies at the forefront of the technology. Huang’s remarks add the perspective of one of the industry’s most influential hardware suppliers to that discussion.
Nvidia’s chips remain central to the training and operation of large-scale AI models, giving Huang a direct commercial stake in the pace at which the technology advances. His public assessment stands in contrast to the more cautious tone struck by several of his peers, who have pressed for slower development and clearer safeguards. Huang maintained that AI does not pose an existential threat and that additional regulation is unwarranted.
