The iPhone Duo supports MagSafe, but it will not be broadly compatible with the accessories many owners already use. On 9 September 2026, Apple chief executive John Ternus unveiled the device as a “One More Thing” reveal, introducing the company’s first foldable smartphone.
The iPhone Duo features a squat form factor and works with the Apple Pencil. It carries a price tag of around £1,570. The design differs enough from a traditional iPhone that its shape raises questions for existing iPhone-compatible accessories, particularly MagSafe wallets and MagSafe batteries.
MagSafe batteries and the iPhone Duo
At present, few MagSafe batteries are expected to work well with the iPhone Duo. There is little space between the magnetic ring and the camera island, and some batteries would hang over the bottom of the device. Apple is likely to release a first-party solution in the future, as it did for the iPhone Air, and other companies are expected to produce compact square batteries that attach to the rear. A sizeable market for batteries designed for the three-screen device is anticipated.
Why MagSafe wallets may not fit
The outlook for MagSafe wallets is less certain. Apple has said the iPhone Duo is fairly similar in size to a US passport. Based on the size of a credit card compared with a US passport, a MagSafe wallet is unlikely to fit onto the iPhone Duo due to the camera bump. Even if one did attach, a user would need to remove it to reach a card.
Apple has also chosen to exclude the iPhone Duo from the list of compatible devices on its official MagSafe Wallet listing. A third-party developer could potentially create a wallet that attaches horizontally, though such an approach would alter the usual placement.
Carrying a card without a phone-mounted wallet remains straightforward. The iPhone has existed for roughly 19 years, while MagSafe first appeared in 2020. Options include using a separate wallet or going wallet-free for errands at locations that accept Apple Pay.
Casetify is preparing to launch iPhone Duo cases. Apple’s official MagSafe Wallet listing does not include the iPhone Duo among its compatible devices.
