The Insta360 Luna Pro is a single-lens compact steadicam that arrives as a slightly stripped-back version of the company’s Luna Ultra, offering a distinct advantage over rival devices: the ability to shoot vertical video in 4K. It is also available to buy in the US, unlike DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4.
Insta360’s first compact steadicam, the Luna Ultra, made an impression earlier this year by beating DJI to launch with two lenses. The Luna Pro follows that release with a design that drops to a single lens while retaining much of what made the Ultra appealing.
What the Luna Pro offers
At its core, the Luna Pro is largely a Luna Ultra with the telephoto lens removed. It uses the same 1-inch-type 8K sensor found in the Ultra’s main camera, and carries a similar design. That includes the detachable 2-inch touchscreen, which doubles as a remote control, along with the same four-hour battery life.
The device also features an NFC tag for quicker file transfers, keeping the workflow features that appeared on the earlier model. In practice, the Luna Pro looks and feels very much like the Ultra, sharing its form and handling.
How it compares
The vertical 4K video capability sets the Luna Pro apart, giving it a unique position among compact gimbal cameras. This makes it well suited to content created for social platforms, where vertical framing is standard.
Its wider availability is another notable point. While DJI’s Osmo Pocket 4 is not on sale in the US, the Luna Pro can be purchased there, broadening the options for buyers seeking a compact single-lens steadicam.
By stepping back to a single lens, Insta360 has positioned the Luna Pro as a more focused alternative to the twin-lens Luna Ultra, retaining the core sensor and hardware while narrowing the feature set.
