The HMD 106 Pure has surfaced unexpectedly, appearing on an online store in Pakistan despite not being listed on HMD’s official website. A related model, the HMD 105 Pure, was also found, though it uses an older design.
The new handset closely resembles the HMD 101 in its overall look. Under the shell, however, it runs a different chipset, the Unisoc 6531E. This same chip powers other models such as the HMD 102, which additionally includes a basic 320 x 240p camera module. The HMD 106 Pure offers only basic GSM connectivity, meaning it cannot be used in regions that have already switched off, or are set to switch off, their 2G networks.
Pricing And Colours
The headline attraction is the price. The HMD 106 Pure is listed at PKR 3,250, which converts to roughly £9, placing it on the same level as a takeaway coffee. A separate PKR 250 delivery fee applies through the store. Listed colour options include Dark Gray and Teal Green, while the store also displays a blue variant that has not been formally named.
Features And Specifications
Despite its rock-bottom cost, the phone carries a handful of features absent from far pricier handsets. It includes a 3.5mm headphone jack paired with an FM radio receiver, along with a microSD slot supporting cards up to 32GB.
Beyond that, the specification sheet is sparse. The device uses a QQVGA display with a resolution of 120 x 160 pixels. It runs S30+, the software found on most other HMD feature phones. Power comes from a 1,000mAh battery, comparable in size to some smartwatch cells.
The HMD 106 Pure is designed to be the most basic mobile phone possible, prioritising simplicity and affordability over any advanced capability.
