Assurance Wireless offers qualifying low-income households free unlimited calls, texts and 10GB of high-speed data each month using T-Mobile’s 4G and 5G networks. The service operates through the federal Lifeline Assistance programme, giving eligible subscribers a way to stay connected without a monthly bill.
The Lifeline programme was created by the federal government in 1985 to provide low-income households with free wireless service. It is designed to help those who cannot otherwise afford connectivity remain in contact with family, healthcare providers, government services and more. Assurance Wireless is one of the companies delivering this free monthly service, and it currently reaches low-income residents across 40 states.
Who qualifies for Assurance Wireless
Eligibility can be based on participation in certain assistance programmes. If you, or a member of your household, take part in one of the following, you may qualify: Medicaid/Medi-Cal, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (Food Stamps or SNAP)/CalFresh, Supplemental Security Income, Federal Public Housing Assistance, Bureau of Indian Affairs General Assistance, Tribally-Administered Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations, Tribal Head Start, and the Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit.
You can also qualify based on household income. Depending on your state guidelines, if your household income is at or below 135% to 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, you may be eligible for Lifeline service.
Qualified subscribers receive free monthly calls, texts and data. You can bring your own handset or purchase a low-cost phone. There are no credit checks, annual contracts or activation fees, and the monthly bill remains at £0.
The paid data option
For those who need more data, Assurance offers the Data Peace Of Mind plan. It includes 12GB of high-speed data, unlimited talk and unlimited text. Subscribers can pay either around £8 per year up front, or receive a monthly bill of roughly £1 plus tax. The plan is available via MyAccount as a monthly option, through Assurance’s street teams, or from Customer Care.
To get started, check whether Lifeline service is available in your area by entering your email address and postcode. Once confirmed, you can proceed to enrol in one of Assurance’s plans. The service is available across 40 states.
