The first truly zero-bezel phone has arrived in prototype form, courtesy of Tecno, and it offers an early glimpse of a design direction that flagship lines such as the iPhone Pro and Galaxy S Ultra could eventually pursue. Following its earlier ultra-slim Spark Slim prototype, Tecno has returned with a handset that removes the black border around the display entirely.
Manufacturers have spent years trimming screen bezels, both for a cleaner, more modern look and to fit a larger display within the same footprint. Yet despite being routinely described as “bezel-less”, most phones have never truly eliminated the frame around the screen. This latest prototype sets out to change that.
What the Tecno prototype is like to use
During a hands-on session, the Tecno zero-bezel phone came across as far more than an experimental mock-up. It was fully operational and behaved largely like a finished product, giving the impression that such a device could reach the market before long.
The absence of any bezel does not appear to transform usability, aside from the potential to fit an even larger display within the same frame. The main draw is visual. Paired with a silver aluminium frame, the handset looks strikingly futuristic, as the screen makes direct contact with the frame and appears less confined than on conventional designs.
Could iPhone and Galaxy adopt a zero-bezel design?
Whether Apple or Samsung will move their flagships to a completely bezel-free look remains an open question. Such a shift would likely follow careful, long-term internal testing, since no one has yet used a phone like this over an extended period. Any hidden issues would need to surface, and substantial user feedback would have to be gathered before either company cleared the approach for mainstream release.
The iPhone Pro and the Galaxy S Ultra lines stand out as the most probable candidates to adopt the design first. As high-end models, they typically receive the newest hardware and design features, making them the natural starting point for a technology of this kind once it becomes viable.
For now, the concept exists as a working Tecno prototype rather than a shipping product, demonstrating that a screen extending fully to the edges of a silver aluminium frame is already technically achievable.
