The Poco F9 Pro and Poco F9 Ultra have arrived, with both models already on sale and early bird pricing still in effect. The two handsets bring meaningful upgrades to the camera, battery and, in one case, the processor.
The Poco F9 Ultra concentrates on two key improvements over the F8 Ultra. The most significant is a new 200MP main camera, replacing the 50MP 1/1.31in module of the previous model. The higher resolution helps bridge the gap between the 1x view and the 5x optical zoom delivered by the 50MP periscope lens.
Poco F9 Ultra: bigger battery, familiar chipset
The second major change concerns the battery, which now offers 8,050mAh of capacity, up from 6,500mAh on the earlier model. Charging speeds remain unchanged, with 100W wired and 50W wireless support. The processor also carries over, as the F9 Ultra continues to use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset found in last year’s device.
Pricing is noticeably higher than the Poco F8 Ultra, leaving buyers to weigh whether the upgraded camera and larger battery justify the increase over rival options.
Poco F9 Pro: a fresh chipset and wireless charging
The Poco F9 Pro takes a different route by upgrading the processor. It runs the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, essentially an Elite Gen 5 with a cut-down GPU. It remains a solid step up from the original Snapdragon 8 Elite that powered the F8 Pro.
Other additions include the same 200MP camera as the Ultra. As the F9 Pro retains the 50MP 2.5x telephoto camera from the previous model, there is no real zoom gap to bridge, since the earlier 50MP 1/1.55in module produced capable 2x shots before the 2.5x lens took over.
The battery upgrade on the Pro is modest, rising to 6,330mAh from 6,210mAh. However, the 100W wired charging is now paired with 50W wireless charging, a feature that was exclusive to the Ultra last year.
The F9 Pro still trails the Ultra in some respects, including battery capacity and telephoto reach, but it now inherits several premium features previously reserved for the top model. Both the Poco F9 Pro and F9 Ultra are available now under the current early bird pricing.
